“Eel Emergency”

Working closely with Enviroschools Canterbury, we developed and facilitated a series of learning exercises aimed at creating positive & fun learning experiences around indigenous freshwater biodiversity.

The aim was to work within the enquiry theme of “explorers” to give the students both hands-on and theoretical learning opportunities to help them understand the significance of not just NZ freshwater eels/Tuna but also the wider range of invertebrate species that make up their food web.

Through this, the students themselves began to develop ideas and take action on ways to help better protect these species in their own backyard, essentially taking meaningful action for the future in terms of helping to protect some of our most threatened freshwater species.
